Good Shabbos Email

Written by Rabbi Yossi Lew

The email is written by Rabbi Yossi Lew, director of Chabad of Peachtree City, Georgia. The emails are edited by Mrs. Arlene Shapiro and Mr. Jeff Kalwerisky of the Chabad community in Atlanta, and Mr. Michael Weinstock of Chabad of Peachtree City.

Usually, the emails begin with a personal story or observation by Rabbi Lew, and the main theme connects with either the week's Torah portion or a relevant holiday theme. The majority of material is taken from the vast and expansive Torah expounding by the great Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi M. Schneersohn, of righteous and blessed memory.

MASEI-FALLING TO SLEEP

FALLING TO SLEEP

Earlier this week, I needed to contact a teenager for a favor. The personal cell phone number of this teenager is saved in my contacts, so I pressed a few buttons and I called. There was no answer. I left a message for this person to call me back.

Fifteen minutes had passed, and I called again. I left another message when the phone was not answered. I then sent a text message. Perhaps, I thought, this person may be unable to hear the phone or maybe it was not a good time to talk.

After another half hour had passed, I called again. Same result. Reality then hit me. I was compelled to solve this issue myself. Oh well, at least I tried.

Just then, the phone rang. It was th… Read More »

PIECES OF PEACE

A couple of weeks ago, the Almighty blessed us with another grandchild. Our daughter, Chanah Raskin, and her daughter, Chayah, are doing well, thank G-d. Mrs. Lew, the proud grandmother, has spent the past couple of weeks deriving Nachas and pleasure, while spending time with our children.

As a result of these happy developments, this proud grandfather has had to spend time unhappily at home alone. True, the sacrifice is with a full, complete and glad heart, but when reality stares one in the face, it becomes complicated.

One typical example occurred the other day: I overestimated how much bread and Challah would be necessary for the scaled-down needs in my house. I soon had brea… Read More »

PINCHAS-THE SACRIFICE OF CONQUERING THE LAND

THE SACRIFICE OF CONQUERING THE LAND

The news coming from Israel has been explosive, to say the least. As the news media are having a field day, deadly rockets are falling over most of Israel. School children in camps, adults going about their daily activities, even brides and grooms at their wedding ceremonies, have been forced to halt their actions abruptly, and rush instead to safe locations to protect their lives.

This was all precipitated by the brutal abduction and immediate execution of three young boys, butchered for the sole crime of being Jewish. This led to alleged Jewish drifters taking revenge on an innocent Arab kid – which has, rightfully so, left the Jewish world in shock and outr… Read More »

BALAK-TIME TO SEND LIONS AGAINST EVIL

TIME TO SEND LIONS AGAINST EVIL

It was always a possibility. Very few, though, actually expressed it. In any case, why dwell on the negativity when there was equal possibility for it to be positive?

Alas, it could not have been “equal” when dealing with pure, unadulterated, unfathomable evil.

And so, earlier this week the shocking news reverberated across the world: the three young men, teenagers, who were kidnapped on their way home from school a few weeks ago, had been murdered, exterminated, in cold blood, within minutes of their abduction. Their bodies dumped beneath some rocks in an empty field.

Can you possibly imagine, anywhere even in the deepest recesses of the mind… Read More »
