The Talmud is the foundation of Judaism. While the Torah is the basis of everything, without the Talmud to explain the Torah, the Torah would have little understanding and relevance.

The Talmud, written basically in Aramaic, is a closed book. Most cannot read Aramaic. In addition, it is presented with minimal and precise words, not containing many connection-words. Moreover, the Talmud delves into complex and complicated matters that require keen minds and expertise in understanding it.

Yet, the critical importance of the Talmud cannot be stressed enough. It is the foundational attempt to present the Torah's laws, explain them, and it seeks the sources of all that Judaism requires. It then presents the law and traditions in the way we know them. As an added bonus, the Talmud also presents many stories and anecdotes regarding the laws it discusses, and often goes off in a tangent about stories and anecdotes in the Torah as well.

It is safe to say that without the Talmud there would be no Judaism. The Talmud is the final word for every group and denomination of practicing Jews without difference.

We are pleased to present a Talmud class for the benefit of all our friends. We are studying the first chapter of the Talmud's tenth volume.

No prior knowledge is necessary. The study will be in English, and an English text will be provided.

If you were ever curious about the "heart" of Judaism, and what makes it tick, this is an opportunity simply not to miss!

Looking forward to seeing you then!
