Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the New Year, enjoys an importance like no other holiday. For an entire month prior to this holiday, personal and communal preparations are the focus. The Shofar is blown on each weekday; reflections on the past year are on the mind; extra Psalms and prayers are recited; Rabbis and layman alike are engrossed in the synagogue experience of Rosh Hashanah, the day the King is crowned.
